Bio

Semaan Khawam [a.k.a. “birdman”] is a Syrian-Lebanese artistbased in Beirut. His work encompasses both painting andsculpture, in addition to graffiti and poetry, that addressescontemporary issues such as migration and identity. Imagery andfiguration of birds is prevalent in his work, in reference to his alterego, and hence his nickname, as birds tend to possess freedomsin movement that human beings do not.Semaan’s work has been exhibited in Lebanon, Bahrain, Jordan,Berlin, France, Italy, New York, Singapore, Taiwan and the UK, inover 30 collective exhibitions. He has also had numeroussuccessful solo shows. Semaan appreciates collaborations withother artists; one of his many endeavors is the Sleeping with theEnemy productions which is an artists' collective project.
